Hey, just thought I might share this if you don't already know... The hike to the "Pfeiferhorn" or Little Matterhorn Peak is absolutely awesome right now... There is a bit of snow to deal with and it's not an easy hike... So, under 14 might wanna stick this one out... But Starting from the trailhead above Tanner Flats up Little Cottonwood canyon makes for the most varied fun hike I've done in a long time... Trail, Snow...Lots of it! (zigzag up to ridge), sureal scenery of the Red Pine Lakes (especially in the morning-ice over), herds of Mountain Goats with babies, pretty technical rock scramble on ridge right before final push up peak... Then STEEP snow foot skiing on the way down, bring ski poles... (Don't take Maybird Gulch... Take the Red Pine Lakes route straight up to the ridge...
It was one of the funnest hikes I've done in a long time yesterday (saturday)... Actually there was some breeze, you could snowkite (if you're really jonesin') on the field of snow in the upper Red Pine Lakes... That'd be a haul though... 4.5 approx. hours to summit... 3 to snow field.
