What's the consensus on good anemometers? Marty? Jim? Anyone?

i bought a cheapo one from Graingers for like $80. its an extech anameter. seems to do the trick for me, however there is no data logging, or stand included. but, it does the trick for me. it gives me a quick and easy way to determine how fast the wind is blowing (or not). seems that the bearings might be easily susceptible to sand and other stuff gunking up the readings. billy has the same one and it is already reading a knot lower than mine usually.

I’m guessing you interested in handheld anemometers. There are lots of them out there! I’ve owned several over the years. My current favorite is the Skymaster, which is convenient and fairly robust but has more “bells and whistles” than I really need. John Dubock’s old employer, Murray’s ( http://www.murrays.com ) carries a good selection of handhelds with prices ranging from $25 to $99. Digital readouts seem to have more credibility on the beach, but the $25 analog model is probably plenty accurate enough for our purposes.

Carl,

Mine is nice, but the company doesn't make them anymore.
(you've probably seen it on top of my van at Sulphur)

I glued a big magnet to the bottom, and just put it on my van.
(the magnet has been tested at 78mph!!!, not intentionally)

If It quits working, I kinda like these...
