First time at Floras Lake and Hood River

For anyone that is interested, Floras Lake south of Bandon Oregon is great for novice kiteboarders. It is a fresh water lake separated from the ocean by a 100 yards of sand. The water was warm and shallow for a good stretch. The campground is great for hanging out socializing and very kid frendly. Mostly windriders there. Winds were very light when I was there, but people where preparing for the weekend winds that were on the way.

I rode/saw the gorge at hood river for the first time. Wind surfing is very much alive. Plenty of kiteboarders too. Winds were 25 to 30 mph sunday. I took out the wife's 9m waroo after a experienced rider "highly recommended it". There was a large sandbar exposed just east of town and it was easy to get some rides in even though I'm still not staying up wind. Walk the kite back up the sand bar and go again. After a few round trips I was overwhelmed by the wind and brought the kite down. I noticed the beach had cleared. Figured it was getting too windy. Then I noticed that It was just right for the masses and they were all out riding. What a place to ride if your skills are tuned in.
