Powder Mountain Access

Postby Augie » Mon Jul 10, 2006 9:03 am

I spoke to the management at Powder Mountain about kite access. They say they have worked out the concerns that the insurance company had with kiting and the insurance company now is OK with kiting at Pow Mow. They still want to charge for access, but can't figure the best way to go about it.

I also asked about when/if they would cut the trees in the gap between the parking lot and the riding area. I had marked a small aspen grove and a few other oddball trees that were in the way on the last day of the season. Well, due to Pow Mow replacing a lift this summer they don't have anyone available to cut them down. However, I was given permission to cut them myself whenever I get to it. The trees only have to be cut and trimmed to lay flat and left in place. I have the gate combination and can drive directly to the spot. I also have a chain saw. Does anyone else want to help? If so, when is the best time?

That sounds good. I didn't want to set a date that might conflict with someones plans, so I was waiting to see who chimed in. So with Marty's plans in mind lets go with Sat Aug 12 @ 10:00 at the Hidden Lake parking lot. You may not get past the gate to the parking lot and in that case I will open it. Sat 19 Aug is the alternate date. With 3 saws it won't take long to beat up an aspen grove.

I almost hate to say it but I still haven't gotten out on the water. I haven't had my kites out since the snow melted and I acquired a new squirt boat (ultra-low volume kayak).

Augie,
I'm sorry but my plans have changed.
I'll be back in the Gorge both weekends.
If you need my chain saw, I can get it to you to use.
I'm not sure, but I think Jake is in Maui,
and won't be there.

I can cut trees either this weekend or the one after the 12th. But next week is no good for me.....or half the others it sounds like.

Whats the word Augie, is the 12th a go or can we reschedule?

I've got a chainsaw tuned up, stickered up, and ready to mow down a Snowkiting paradise!!

I don't mind working alone but it would go faster if we had more hands. Lets just plan on 19-20 August @ 10:00. Meet at the hidden lake parking lot. If the chain is across the road I will open it.
