Big Winds Predicted for Friday!!!

Postby Augie » Wed Feb 14, 2007 8:38 am

26mph west at Pow Mow and 21mph west at Monte. I have the day off and will be getting in an all day kite fix. With the high gusts predicted for the upper ridges (Pow Mow) I think the call will be Monte. Does anyone want to sample the goods with me? If you have never been here, it really is an amazingly big area with lots of room to roam and do some exploring. The terrain will satisfy anything you want to do from high speed runs to hill glides. I typically go there whenever Pow Mow looks like a blowout, and the terrain is much better. I have gone as far as 3 1/2 miles in from the road still saw good terrain. New snow fell last week and more is predicted for tomorrow. To get there drive up past Pineview towards Monte Cristo(SR 39?). Park at mile marker 36. If the wind is right you can rig right by your car. If the wind is not right , you may have to walk up the groomed snowmobile track to wherever the wind starts. The hike is only 1/4 mile maximum. The bowl where we usually play is right there and any further exploration is easy from that point.

Sounds like fun Augie,
Our crew will be piling into the van for the roadtrip to Montana Land for the Rodeo. Its tempting to stop and ride on the way north, but I was thinking Island Park or somewhere a bit farther up the road.

Have fun up there in the freshy's!

Windzup,
Brian

Thanks Brian, I am looking forward to kiting with you southern guys at the Snowkite Masters. I haven't been to Skyline or Strawberry all season.

Hey Augie,

Wish I could join you. I am entertaining out of town ski guests (they will probably hate the wind).

Nice of you to "share the love." However, I would say that Strawberry is the biggest area by a long shot. Strawberry has at least 5 parking lots where you can launch and ride. It is huge!

In Feb 2005, Bryce from Standard Examiner came to Skyline with us, They did a story.
The cover page of the insert is Doug.
