Pow Mow/Monte Cristo report

Postby Augie » Wed Dec 12, 2007 8:40 am

I drove to Monte Cristo yesterday to look at the snow coverage. Right now there is not quite enough to kite on. The brush is still sticking up and they really need about another foot. Since the wind wasn't blowing at Monte, I drove to Powder Mountain. Same story- not quite enough snow and no wind. Although it had more snow than Monte, it wasn't quite enough. I think if the wind was right and you were desperate you could thread the needle around the obstacles. Both areas need more snow. I GOT SKUNKED!!

I also saw a great spot on the east side of Trappers Loop road on the Mountain Green side. I stopped at a ranchers house and he gave me the name of the owner of the property. However, when I finally got hold of him later last night he wouldn't give permission to kite there. He also said that the land will probably be sold soon. Sounds like more houses will be going up in that area.

Thanks for the report Augie, keep up the Nor-Ute exploration. With more snow there are for sure dozens of epic areas yet to be snowkited...and with the fact of Pow Mow turning on the lift ticket light, Snowkiters will be looking for new places to ride in the area. I imagine Monte Cristo will see more action this winter.

With some more snow we should plan an insertion to the Sinks area up past Logan.

We'll be passing thru on both sides of the Island Park Round-Up, so appreciate the snow report so we know where to stop in at.

Thanks Brian, Guess we'll look for side action closer to J-Hole and not in Northern Utah. Nothing better than road tripping to see whats out there anyway. Looks like decent wind around this coming weekend.
