Flaming Gorge or Bear Lake

Postby MikE mAy » Mon Jul 17, 2006 1:37 pm

i'm heading out to camp with the GF this weekend. might as well try to make it a dual purpose trip and set myself up for some wind, right? we have to stay relatively close to SLC though. i'm thinking either Bear Lake, or Spencer was saying something about Flaming Gorge? is Flaming Gorge a possibility? can you remind me of the details Spencer?

anyway, if any of you can think of any other clsoe by spots that might provide some good hiking/camping as well as the slight possibility of wind, let me know. How about Sulfer?

Mike - primo camping at Bear River campground, about 20 miles (?) South of Sulphur Creek. If no wind, beautiful camping right on the river, probably not far to hiking. Might want to check reservations, not sure how that works.

The only spot I've sailed on Flaming Gorge is Anvil Point, or something like that. Pretty open and barren, but close to where the lake necks down and thus gets a little more wind. Would probably want to drive South to hiking.

Look at my post on Big Sandy last week for info on that place and Pinedale.

Dean's post on Gooseberry sounds very intriguing. You'd already be on a high plateau with nice hiking right there. Go check that one out for us, willya, and report back?
