If you are in the market for a new GPS, here's a new model you might want to cosider. The GT-11 by Locosys.
I got email from Craig Berg, who helps put together the Mid West Speed Challenge http://www.midwestspeedquest.com at Lake Okabena in Worthington Minnesota. Check out the web site....there is $1000 prize money, if anyone is interested. He sent me a bit of info about this unit, and it's feartures. He said that they are not being offered in the US yet, but he was able to import some for people to try out. In fact he is sending me one in the next week or so to try out, so If anyone is interested in seeing it please let me know.
Here's some of the features that he pointed out about the unit:
>>I used the Foretrex in 2006 because it was the best one out there.
>>
>>This year, the GT-11 is generations ahead for the same money. The
>>GT-11 runs off 12 satellites instead of 4. It takes a reading every
>>second, instead of every 2 seconds. The tracks are incredibly
>>accurate.
>>
>>It writes the tracks to an SD card, so you can record an entire years
>>worth of sailing, and look at it later.
>>
>>It has a USB adaptor. It will recharge off the computer, cigarette
>>lighter, or 110v AC. These connectors are all included.
>>
>>These are new to the USA. The rest of the world has tested the GT-11
>>and is standardizing on it.
Lot's of other info in a google search of GT-11.
