Utah to host a lot of Snowkiters this season!

Here's a sneak peak at Ozone's winter agenda this season....we'll have both the Snowkite Masters and a Snowkite Retailer Summit at Skyline, along with Les's Pow Mow gig. Get ready to make floor space for all of your Snowkiting friends :D

Snowkite Basecamp Tour:
DECEMBER 7-9 Skyline Snowkite Summit, UT
December 15-16 Island Park Intermountain Rally, ID
January 5-6 MN Rally, location TBA
January 12-13 MI Rally, location TBA
February 2-3 Tugg Hill Rally, NY
February 16-17 Mt. Haggin Rally, MT
MARCH 1-2 US OPEN Snowkite Masters, Skyline UT
March 22-30 ALASKA Freeride Rally, Anchorage to Valdez

Each of these Basecamp events hosted by Ozone are Freeride Rallies, with one goal in mind, RIDE MORE. Along with KitePro clinics and the random BBQ, each event will host a GPS race, encouraging riders to kite farther and faster. So pick a date and a location that attracts you, and journey to an amazing place to ride with others, and see who's having more fun Snowkiting. More information to follow as the snow falls, along with current locations of the 'Basecamp' as it travels from range to range. Look for the Basecamp at Strawbs this winter as the crew will be chasing the goods between there and Skyline.

Brian,

Last year I was coming back from Capitol Reef with a friend on a motorcycle so we took the backroad (more scenic route). That took us along Hwy-72 between Fremont and Fremont Junction (along I-70). To my amazement this highway is incredibly scenic and it must get up around 10,000 ft with breathtaking views of the mountains and looking north (down the steep decent back to I-70) onto the red rock country of the San Rafael Swell. The mountains peak maybe only 6 miles south of I-70 but they sort of plateau up there with huge (treeless) bowls facing southwest. When we were up there the wind was howling (30 mph +) from the SW making it impossible for a wind riding junky not to think about the potential. Anyway I think it could have a lot of potential and might be worth a quick look before the snow flies. Looking on the map it's not right in your backyard but not too far (about 100 miles south of Fairview). You might also look at Google maps and you can see (somewhat) how open the vegetation is. There are large areas of very open grassland (I guess for summer grazing). One possible issue is that Hwy-72 might get closed down during the winter. If that were the case I guess a snowmobile would be required for access but with the plateau being pretty close to I-70 it would seem that one could park near the interstate and ride up Hwy-72.

Hey Dean, yeah that place is a nice score... I believe its called Hogans Pass, and they do plow it open all winter. The last couple winters have been a bit shy on snow there, but now I'm a bit closer to check more often. The roadside access is good all around the highway...there is also some riding to be had on the higher plateaus too but access may be by plane or miles on a sled.
Yet another exploration range, that may go untapped for years to come.

The Alaska trip last winter was the sweetest kiting of my life. We literally had 3 epic sessions a day, each one beating out the previous for the position of most epic sesh ever!

We dialed in the motorhome program and were able to travel and sleep 6 people right on the spot at Thompson Pass near Valdez.

The joy of it was riding fresh pow and watching a suburban full of heli-skiers, who were grounded due to high winds! They watched while we all plowed pow fields day after day.

Its AK, so there is no guarantee on the weather, but we have the locations and dates dialed in to the best possible. You should join us for the caravan this March... its the ultimate RV Kite tour!
