I would appreciate getting some links for snowkiting weather forecasting (i.e. point forecast for Powder Mountain, winds aloft forecast, any applicable wind meters, etc.). I suggest that we put together a separate weather page for snowkiting with an explanation after each site like we have on the current weather page. For now, I would just like to bookmark the sites on my browser
I currently use the following links:
The point forecast for Rush, NOAA utah forecasts, and winds aloft on the UWA weather page.
http://www.windzup.com for the point forecast for Skyline.
http://www.ikitesurf.com - this is a paid subscription service than I always plan on canceling, but end up using all the time. I check out the vector forecast which gives you a snapshot of the wind patterns for northern utah and western wyoming.
My favorite tool is the digital prototype forecast on the local NOAA page.
Those links are not quite enough because you also need the experience of going out there. For example, NOAA will often show a forecast of light west winds for Strawberry that somedays happen and other days do not, it is kind of a crap shoot there. Strawberry also has limited riding on a south day, most of the wind is blocked unless it is a really strong south. You might catch it at The Ladders or a spot called Mud Creek near the marina. Strawberry seems to be a sure bet on a north day.
