9/7 DC ROLLERCOASTER RIDE

Postby David Kyle » Sun Sep 07, 2008 6:35 pm

As Sundance hit 19mph and 26 on the gust we ran down and pumped up, At least I ran. I put up 17m Waroo wich prooved to be quite the handfull. Im sure noone left today with a big smile having to deal with the conpletely holey and inconsistant wind today. I was surprised to be able to ride almost 100% upwind on the 17m when the gusts blasted in.

"Challenging" conditions for us poleboarders too (see Carl's Post); schlogg, blast, schlogg, schloog, schlogg, blast, repeat. Having the darksiders down to leeward does give us a bit of entertainment during the schlogg phases; always fun to watch you guys sine and kite loop during the lulls.

Maybe the kites could be launched with 2000 foot lines to get it up to the Sundance reading?

how bad was it at Island Beach? i felt like it really was about the most variable sailing i've had all year, (which isn't saying that much, unfortunately).

Not sure DarkSide Beach is big enough to lay out 2000' lines. Interestingly enough, there is a proposal to use kites on 800 m lines to generate power:
