steady wind up high on the ridge . snow was wind blown but still soft, nice fast riding. Just three riders.

Really nice day at pow mow. "Same skis" Jim and i had the place to ourselves most of the afternoon. We were joined breifly by a third kiter on a 14 nemi hp. Snow was untracked, fresh pow down lower and wind-blown but still soft near the top. Wind was very steady (for here), probably 17-20 most of the afternoon. I had the 15m out and was getting some huge jumps. Didn't really matter if you stuck the landing since the snow was so good. Worked on back rolls for a while and i'm getting to where i can land about half of them. Had one with a double rotation and a kiteloop - granted i wasn't trying to do that, but it felt pretty cool to nail the landing and ski away from it. It'll probably be a couple of years till i can land that when i'm actually trying to.

This was my first time at PowMow. Kited for 3+ hours and learned the hard way that the lift closes at 4. Was able to kite about half way back to the parking lot, but you have to go down in the valley a bit to make it all the way and there just wasn't any wind down lower. I paid the $20. While i'm not condoning not paying for the lift pass, seems like you wouldn't have to if you don't mind a 10-15 minute walk back to the car.

Jason, sorry about you missing the lift but it unintentionally also caused some other problems. As some of you know I work on the ski patrol at Pow Mow and when I spoke with my patrol director yesterday he said there were several lost people at Pow mow on Saturday night. Although he never said you were viewed as being lost we still check all leftover vehicles in the lot at the end of the day. They figured out that you were still kiting out there and that is not a problem. [b]However, the patrol director asked if I could put out the word for kiters to please check in with the ski patrol if you think you will be staying out past closing time.[/b] I myself have been guilty of this earlier in the season and was told about it. If we just check in we can keep open the late evenin g opportunities. And yes that little valley is viscious when it comes to dropping kites. One other thing-I have AT&T and the reception is pretty good in the riding area if you are worried about being out there alone. Also, the night manager makes a couple of trips up there after closing to prevent vandalism and he will see your car if it is still there real late.

I guess i hadn't planned on being out there so late, the kiting was just so good it was hard to stop. I finally pulled out a watch and saw that it was 4:45. i pulled up next to Jim and asked him how late he thought the lift was open until, and when he said 4, i thought OK, guess i have some walking ahead of me. I had actually tried to kite in the direction of the parking lot earlier, so i knew i wouldn't make it all the way there. So, any advice if we find ourselves in that position - out later than expected and we hadn't spoken to patrol on the way out? ie, is there a phone number to call patrol and let them know there are still X number of people here and we're walking in?

I passed a few patrollers while walking back to the car. I flagged them down to let them know that there was still one person that had been kitning on his way in - i knew jim was behind me but i couldn't see him. As it turned out, we got to our cars at just about the same time via different routes. The patrollers asked if i had seen any snowboarders recently, so i knew that some people were missing.
