G-ville, Sunday, 5.7-6.5

5.7 was too small for a while. George on his 6.6 was using me as a jibe mark from about 8:00-9:30. Got some rides, but nothing like yesterday. Rigged 6.5 and sailed powered for a while until the wind gods decided to have some fun with gusty honkin' conditions from 10:30 on. Faked 'em out and quickly switched back to the 5.7, well powered, but it was nothing like yesterday's wind. Gusty, with dust in the air and big holes. check out the wind record about 10:30: 18 avg, gusting to 29; 13 avg, gusting to 30!!!

From 11:00 on it got steadier, which is to say it was merely really gusty. I bagged it about 11:30, while lots of others were still happily sailing. Most sailors I've seen at G-ville, maybe 10-11 there total? People still rigging as I pulled out around noon.

George was King of the Lake. Sailed at least 4 hours, never changed sail from 7.0-5.0 conditions, first on the water and still sailing as I pulled away. How do he do dat?

The sailing actually got better between 11:30 and 1:30. The wind turned more from the southwest and I watched the best sailing of the day---too trashed from fighting the big gear earlier.
