7/31 Salt Ponds SA2 19M kite

Postby Kenny » Sat Aug 01, 2009 8:44 am

First time I have kited the Salt Ponds in 2 years. Water is low this year. Wind was out of the NE which is not a great direction as it is more puffy, but at least I was powered up. Made for kind of boring riding as I don't like jumping there if there is any risk of all at falling into the brine (instant eye shut and throat swelling). Water is reddish white with clumps of salt interspersed. After cruising close by one clump, I realized that it was a tumble weed covered with crystallized salt. Have to rinse all my gear today, everything is covered in salt. Not sure why I go there...

Kenny,

That place sounds outrageous. I think I would rather be skunked by a dumpster than going in that water. But, then again you did get to kite!!! I heard that Lincoln did not blow again yesterday, Friday. Whit

You fall in that Salt Pond water and its like a belt sander on your skin. Every orofice in your body gets a salty enema like wash. One trip is enough. Wild on a big South push in Feb, ask Layne ...
