5/18 American Falls Res. 11m Ozone Instinct

Brian Doubek alerted me to a Lake Wind Advisory for the lower Snake River Basin, American Falls, and Pocatello and I was out the door. Was rewarded with a 3 hr. plus session lit up on my 11m with clear, cool water(not cold) and gorge like swell. Port ramps perfect for kickers on the inside and starboard ramps on the other side of the lake. Shared the water with three other windsurfers who rode 5.8's to 6.5's and looked well powered. Massive hangtime was the order of the day with gouging switch stance swell slashes. Made a point to go big when wakeboarders stopped by to see what I was doing. The water was refreshing. Launched at AF marina. Apparently when the water level drops lots of beach is exposed which would make the launch better. The drive took 2:45 min. from downtown SLC and cost me a full tank of gas($80). It was an epic session and well worth the price of admission. BTW- Same advisory is in effect for TODAY!!!

I know I know. Sorry. Didn't get the word till noon or so and I should have left earlier. Billy couldn't go and Jake didn't txt back till I was in Brigham City. I figured you had the usual ball and chain. Ha ha. Marty had family stuff. Next time I will give prior warning. It was a drop everything quick and go event. Believe me I would have preferred to load up my truck with my kiter friends and gone for a road trip.

Glad you got some up there, but yeah call with some notice (801-541-9929). I wouldn't have gone to work yesterday.
I dated a girl from Pocatello a few years ago, before I knew how to kite. Her mom actually had a windsurfer and would go out to American Fork Res. every once in awhile. Get can get a good amount of windy days out there I guess.
You weren't told wrong, when the water drops, there is a lot of beach there. Would be a great launch site. Just don't drive your truck to close to the water because the ground can stay soft, even if it looks dry. I guess a few cars get stuck every once in awhile. My ex actually got a 4 wheeler stuck when we were riding around the Reservoir one day. Also, I was out there on a windless day on jet skis and it didn't seem that crowed with other boats, but again that was about 5 years ago. Should be a great place if you want to put the drive in.
