Ankle Injury at Burmester

Postby Kenny » Sat Jun 28, 2008 10:04 pm

I went to Burmester early Friday afternoon with high hopes of some good riding. The wind was light so I pulled out the Silver Arrow. I soon found that the wind was also intermittent, so much so that the kite came down a few times. However, after about 20 minutes it started to fill-in and I was soon zipping back and forth, but then a small gust that took my attention off the ground corresponded with a soft/rough patch. The next thing I know the board is flipping and spinning with only 1 foot in the straps - never a good thing, but especially not good on land. Of course, what gave was my ankle. Spent the next hour folding up the kite and dragging my sorry butt to the car. I am doing the RICE regimen (Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation). I don't think I broke it, but I also don't think I will be kiting for 2 - 3 weeks. Sucks, since I missed some good kiting this week due to a business trip. Oh well, I hope all of you get in some good riding. Do me a favor and post on the windlog. I will need some vicarious kiting for the next few weeks.

Looks like I fractured my fibula. It will require surgery to repair and a full 6 weeks on crutches - there goes my Gorge trip...

Billy, you can use my Glide. Jake has it. It just needs a coat of epoxy on the edge or it will fall apart on you.

Thanks Kenny; now the pressure is off me! JK. I actually don't mind if people use my boards at all . It's not windsurfing where they are so fragile. As long as you don't grind them on the rocks at Lincoln beach. We have a very sharing group of Utah kiters. Sal I got my new 15m so you can have my old 15m free!!

KMan, Sorry about your leg. Jeff tore his ACL while we were kiting at Sherman Island a week or so ago. He has reconstructive sugery tomorrow am, and will also be out for awhile. Looks like only us OLD GUYS stay healthly. Kinda hard to get hurt when when were're just BnFn. Maybe, we have also learned our bodies limits and that it takes longer to heal up. By the way, how's Nate doing, haven't seen him out this year. Anyway best of healing vibes to both you and Jeff.

Jon,

I am sorry to hear about Jeff. Yes, sometimes we take our health for granted. I guess I will have 6 weeks to think about it... Please let Jeff know that I wish him a speedy recovery.
