someone in our community must have pissed some god or diety off, because there has been carnage this week! arrived to not that srong of winds and everybody heading in around 5:15 or so. bill was completely out of his wet clothes, so immediately i knew somethign was up. well, he hurt himself and wasn't kiting the night anymore. the wind came up again after a bit (nothing like the 12m sesh i missed out on i guess) and we all slowly headed back out. i was on my 16 and my freestyle board. Marty was playing in the butter reeds and i heard a yelp and looked over to see marty's kite crashing. well, i didn't think too much of it becuase Marty is one of the kiting god fathers around here to me and i thought how the hell can he get hurt. well, multiple passes later he is still messing around. this time i heard a yelp again as he was walking in. turns out he banged up his knee too and was on the ultimate walk of shame in.

so, i've prayed to whatever kite gods there may be this morning. that makes, what- 6 injuries in the last two months? jeff, ken, jason, bill, me, and who else?

so, good luck to bill and marty! i called bill last night and it dosen't sound like anything major. and marty- i'm hoping you have the same thing i had- just a severly spained MCL.

so, all in all bad ju ju last night but it was fun while the wind was up. i got a chance to explore the north end of the jetty and take a few laps in the channel. the waves never really organized themselves but were still big enough to get soem good jumps and slashes.

Bummer about Marty, Hope he's Ok. Doc and I looked at the bones in my leg and there are no new fractures. However I did strech some ligements and worst case I may have seperated a tendon from the bone, however there is no way to tell with out a MRI so I'll have to limp around and see how it feels this weekend and get the MRI if it keeps hurting. Hopeful I just sprained it.

Great session before the carnage started however.

Well, me for one; mild to moderate R MCL sprain sustained about 1/2 hour into a kiteboarding lesson at Floras Lake.

The curse of the "Crusty Carp Fisherman" has struck! The old timer was beheaded by kite lines a long long time ago for throwing stones at early kite pioneers on the pristine shores of Utah Lake and has come back to haunt and avenge his death!

I think you guys are on to something! Windsurfing, fish tacos, and tequila? That's it! Mexico is waiting. F-----g San Carlos to be exact. A pilgrimage to San Carlos is enough to break the curse, and of course you must bring your kite gear if you are going to travel all that way! Derry did, and here are the fruits of his labor:

All the good thought sent my way from fellow windriders/friends really worked.
GP Doc pulled, pushed and twisted on me with no pain,
I'm really positive about that. (or in denial)
I will have MRI friday morning,
but probably won't hear anything till next week,
after I've been kiting in the Gorge a few days.
If I have soreness, I'll just use the time to learn the directional I have.
No jumping and twisting, just surfing.

Billy should have news from MRI today...

Don't fault the landboarding, Kenny. Bad things happen throughout the kiting world. Plenty of injuries coming off the water. I came out of one of my bindings in the water last year, and I'm sure if I was going just a bit faster, I could have broken my foot. Same idea as your injury, but in the water.

Lesson to be learned here is to fly smaller kites on the land. With the speeds that are possible on land, you can still jump even without hauling out a monster kite. Less height in landboarding is a good thing, the landings are more technical and the margin of error narrower.

Heal quick, Kenny. And all of the walking wounded, for that matter.

I hope you get a clean bill of health on the MRI. I hope you get in your gorge trip. I love that place in July. I will have to wait until next year.

If and when I pick up a landboard again, it will be with a smaller kite. You are right, the margin of error is smaller landboarding compared to snowkiting or kiteboarding on the water. Note: you ALMOST broke a bone on the water, the consequences are more pronounced on land. I am sure that if I had done the same thing on the water, it would have be a sprain at the very worst. Don't get me wrong, I love landboarding, the smaller margin for error makes it a whole lot of fun.
