Jan 27 Strawberry 14m Mayhem

Postby ChrisPSherwin » Tue Jan 27, 2009 10:58 pm

Bailed from work at 11:00 and pulled in to the Strawberry River lot at about 12:00. Met Bob and a few others. Launched the 14, which dropped 5 or more times en route to the 1st hill where the wind picked up. I made more than my fair share of mistakes, but finally got onto a ridgetop where I stayed for the next few hours. Figured out how to power through turns, absolutely LAUNCHED myself a few times and did some high speed gliding. I don't know that I have any adrenaline left. Rather than flounder back to the car, I skied to the road and walked back. I think my walking time was maybe 15 minutes max. No style points, but I did make it back to my car, and then onto work on time. Fluffy pow in many places...plenty left. Great coverage too.

yo chris,
strong work today. You had that zone wired. It was a challenge getting back to the parking lot but you could have made it. all and all a typical day at strawberry river. Decent pockets of snow, light wind in the bottom areas and strong wind on the ridges. Strawberry river is maze of wind, holes and powder stashes. Also a good jumping spot for goofy footers.

Saw to many kites down, or working to hard, at S. River
We went to Chicken Creek

I was pretty lit on my 13M, nice new snow.
but not as deep as I thought it was gonna be.

I went to Chicken Creek West. The wind was up and down at first then it started to build up and get cleaner. Rode up to the peak. The wind was 10 mph stronger up there and clean. The snow wasn't great. Big hard chucky snow with four ft mogul on top. It was pretty cool up top to see everybody kite and the Strawberry terrian. Came down and rode the powder that protected by the trees.

I went to Chicken Creek East rode the hills to do some freestyle riding and countless of fast BIG POWDER turns. It would take me one season at the resort to get this many powder turns. I pretty much track out the hill side before anybody showed but they were still plenty powder for everybody around the hills.

It was good to see everybody having a blast up there. I saw Kevin, Marty, Sal, Vern, Stumper, Tommy, D-mack, Bob allen, 2 newbies getting stoke with snowkiting and 6 other riders I couldn't tell who they were.

It looks windy today. Heading out. See you out there crew.
