Light Wind at PowMow 14m Mayhem

Postby ChrisPSherwin » Fri Mar 20, 2009 7:38 pm

Rigged my 14m kite at noon and rode VERY Light wind until about 3:30. Actually put the kite down and took a nap in it's shade for about 20 min. The wind was on and off, usually enough to keep a kite in the air, and with a few gusts here and there offering temporary power. A few others had 11 and 12m kites and shared similar fates. I managed to fly, drop and drag back to the car and came home to 60 degree temps in Heber. Interesting to note that wind speeds were registering 8-15 mph more or less while I was there. I'm no expert, but I would guess that the wind speeds on the flats were 5-10. This seems consistent with what others had mentioned previously (the anamometer reading high at pow mow compared to what is going on in the kiting area.) Still, with what felt like high pressure, and very little cloud movement above, I was happy to get a few jumps in, and some cruising thereby avoiding a full skunking. Moral of the story...I should have stayed out until dark yesterday while the wind was good. Have a safe weekend. I'll be next to a metal tower at 9400 feet when the lightening comes...
