Has Utah left the building?

Postby windzup » Wed Feb 22, 2006 9:18 am

How come nobody posts on here any more? If we all get on here and post the new spots we are exploring, then we could keep an eye on the weather and open up more successful kite spots. I have an excuse, since I've been on the road most of this winter. But now that I am in town I will try to update as often as possible.

So far this winter, well just in the last 2 weeks since Chasta has arrived, we have opened up new terrain, some at our old areas and some new.

Strawberry is now Chastas fav spot, and he has had solo sessions there during the midweek, not seeing another kiter or biler. Yesterday, finding no wind around Strawsa, he headed south-east where the hills come together again. In this venturi there was enough wind to ride, and as the wind picked up Chasta said he went farther out exploring.

Last week, Chasta pulled off an unprecedented feat, that opened his eyes to the massive potential of Strawsa. He left the parking area and circumnavigated the lake. He went across the lake to the other mountains, up the mountains, snowboarded down the other side, and then continued to kite across the strawberry range coming back in upwind of where he started.
Along the way he found the ultimate kite park, a gravel pit covered in 3 feet of snow, and then he proceeded to hit every jump:)

He has some amazing spots, and he's almost pissed me off I'm so jealous that one Euro rider can come to town and open up new spots that I am too lame to explore myself. To spread the love, we are thinking of planning a slide show in town this month so all of us can see the kick ass spots Chasta is finding.

See you out there..........Good luck finding more spots.........we need more riders exploring in more directions........this is only the beginning.

OK Brian,,you post when you go,,,I'll try to post when I go,, but we need others to post as well. I've seen 20 kiters on one day, with not a single post.
I've been over 25 times this winter, if I was the only one posting, it would look like the Marty bragging log. I'll only post if most everyone else starts posting.

Thanks Marty, We'll try to get the word out to each other in Utah so we can put a finger on good winter riding conditions.

BTW- My appologies for slagging on everyone for not posting, I never bothered to check the Wind Log, which is apperantly full of posts from this season. :D

So today it was no wind at Strawsa and 12-14 meter weather at Skyline where Rob and Chasta road till sunset.

Tomorrow is a similar forecast, so maybe Skyline again. I also heard today that Fairfield in Idaho was blowing 20 plus with nicxe pow. Maybe an Idaho roady is in order.

Brian, My name is Tom Smart. I work for the Desret Morning News and am an avid windsurfer, as many know from this site. I also did the photos for the NY Times on their kiteboarding story last month. I would like to write and shoot one for the paper about the sport in Utah. Could you give me a call and talk about a good time to do so? Cheers and thanks, tom 801-809-2007

Marty's bragging !!!

Postby jason morton » Tue Feb 28, 2006 11:43 am

Marty-
Since you are an AARP member and can kite everyday, I feel it is your duty to post and brag each and every time you go out. I enjoy reading these posts to escape my 60 hr. work week schedule. Thanks-Jason

I have been getting AARP junk mail the last 6 months...Damn
What's up with that???

Having my own business, and great employees,
allows me some free time.
But other times there is no getting out of work.
Like pregnancy leave for one employee this spring,
may cut into kiting real bad.

As long as there is space for more kiters,
and lots of freshies to be had,
(like at most snowkiting locations)
I don't mind posting.
I probably won't post the tighter/crowded spots,
or if I'm the only one posting.

Haven't even seen you this winter.
You're not working weekends also, are you?
New Girlfriend?????
