Strawberry Chicken Creek 11 Feb 10 14m fat skis

Showed up at 1230 to zero wind. I had just driven by Strawberry River and seen 4 down kites. Many of the usual suspects were present. I rigged anyways, stood around for 10 min and voila! Wind. Went up to the ridge right away, spent some quality time with Todd and Billy and many others hucking myself into the air. Good Laaaaawd it was fun!

I was going big and growing huevos (by my newbie standards), Todd was perfecting his tele setup and Billy was just going into frickin ORBIT. Somone asked me how high he was - well, from my uphill perspective it looked like 30 feet ish. Of course I couldn't even see the ground directly below him, so it could have been 50. Don't know that it really matters, I would have had to wipe after being up that high.

A couple of guys did a downwinder from the River to Chicken Creek and had a pretty good time.

As a side note I got VERY lucky on the way home. While cornering just after the summit I noticed that my car was not going where I was steering. I was drifting towards the left, had to pump the brakes - steer and counter steer about 5 times to regain control of the car, which has really nice snow tires. Once under control, at 40 mph I TAPPED the brakes and the antilocks kicked in. The road was super slick, but looked dry for about 3 miles - keep your eyes open!

Chris,

Not just you got lose on the way back, We saw two cars in the snowbank, a state cop was setting up flairs to slow traffic down, when we watched him take a spill right on his butt, we stopped to ask if he was ok, but he just yelled at us and threw a snowball at my van, he was a young kid and obviously upset that he had fallen....Very slippery on the way down.
