STRAWBS RIVER 2/22/2010

Trevor, Madison, Pete and I arrived at 11:00 to great wind in the mid teens.
Didn't take long before the wind went from lite to off the hook. We had a tons of fun gliding the big hill
to the east. The snow was a little shallow to go huge, but that didnt stop Peter. Near the end of the day,
it was so gusty it was getting hard to hold down my 17m Waroo but not to bad. Pete rode 12m Nemi
and Trevor was nicely lit up on 12m Hovoc. We might have had smoother wind at CC but I just like the
terrain an SR.

I rigged my 14m Alliance (backup kite) just to see if it would fly, I've never had it up before. Light wind, no power, no launch. I was reminded to stick with what I know, so I downed the Naish and rigged my 13m Waroo and broke out the skis to see if I could still ski, not alot of confidence but had a nice cruise for a few hours. Went from almost no power to overpowered at times during a 4 hour period til about 1:30. It was worth the drive. Saw alot of good kiters gliding off the hill. Good times had by all, also met a NG Jeff showed up and we (Ken Lewis and I) talked him into rigging his 10m Bullaroo. It was his first time outside of trainer style park flying. He took off upwind from the get-go on skis.

I launching just as Dave was landing his kite. I put up a 15M FS Speed 3. I also headed down to the gliding hill to play. Had it all to myself for a couple hours. Wind was around 20 - 25 on the hills and upper teens in the valleys. There was a slight fade around 4:30 and then 30 minutes later it came back on again just as strong. I packed up around 6.

Oh, I forgot to mention the cat that blew out almost the entire left side of his canopy.
I was filming when dude took a good sized boost off the east hill. Funny thing was that
I could see the trees through his kite. We're not talking a rip but, more like a gaping hole
in between the last and second to last strut. We got it on cam so if you want it, ask.

I rode my inflatable for the first time and I must say it was a learning experience. Will do better next time. I am glad to see a lot of comment about it being too gusty around 3 or 4. I thought I was the only guy who think that.

No Leo, I dont think your the only one. Im sure most everyone is a little winded after todays
punch fest.

I was on the snow at about 11. Wind went from good - to great - to epic - to Oh my God I am tired and about to do something stupid. Peter was going super huge today. I got somewhat motivated and was doing some mini glides by the end of the session. Todd was hucking his meat on teles. Dave was filming and going big himself. Trev was a rocking one handed bandit as well. The northeast section (well past the gliding hills) was super holey. Most of the sunny pitches were firm underneath, but the north faces were very soft.

Fun shit. , My GPS logged 3 hours and 45 min with top speed of 32 and 38 miles total coverd terain. nice!!!

A lot of Kites out all over Strawberry Today!!! EPIC DAY !!! I saw 10 at the River, 10 more around the CC areas. I kited from 1 to 3 on my 9M Caution. Perfectly powered. Took a break and kited again 4 to 5PM still on the 9M and 170 snowboard. The snowboard was cutting through the windcrust and suncrust nicely with powder in between. Best session of the year and a rare day to have that much wind. Quite steady in the CC area. Readings were peak 22mph around 1PM and then 15 to 17mph around 4 to 5PM. WG

I was there from 2:30 - 5:00 and very lit on my Kahoona 11.5. I was thinking it might be a bit too much, but it was just right. There were some crazy gusts at times, but mostly just parked that thing and flew. My 2nd session EVER boosting, since this is my first season on snow, and it was a riot. I hope I'm not being stupid, but I think I'm going pretty big some times. Not always in control in the landing though. I made my first major re-entry crater from about 15 feet. I got rotated on my side and came down that way. At least the snow was pretty soft!
