3/14 Strawberry River- Party Time

Postby whit » Sun Mar 14, 2010 9:44 pm

Forecast looked good, sensors were up all over the state but the thick cloud cover made for some flat light. Everyone was there, Marty, Billy, Leo, McCarthy's, Derry, Whit and crew and crew, Liquid Force etc. I counted 22 kites at one time. Marty and I kited further East on small kites but couldn't see in the flat light, so we ended up at the River, thanks for the flourinated wax. It was a party. Were you there? 17M to 10M WhitG

Fun party, indeed. Played for a little while at the parking area in W Strawberry Road. The wind direction makes it perfect to play on the hills on the south side. Saw a group of 5 kites doing a downwinder. I wonder why no one is sticking around to play. Hope the Strawberry "smoothie" will be around for a couple more weeks.

I started out at VA, joining Jon G. and Todd
Then Mark, Bob, Jason, Lynn,
After some killer riding out in the hills,
the snow temp changed, I felt like my board had sandpaper on the bottom,
I struggled to get back to wax up, passing Billy and Ryan on their way out.
And Slavek and ?
Once John and I got back, it looked like the wind was getting light.
We thought possibly wind was better at CC, but NO, the kites there were workn hard.
Off to SR, to join PARTY TIME,,,,

Here are a few shots from the view area. Sounds like I should have stoped by the river on my way out.

The view area and just downwind of there has always been my favorite spot! 10 foot high quarter pipe wind drifts and killer riding on the hills all around that area. It's interesting that all of the sudden the last few weeks more and more people have been parking and riding down there when it was an empty lot before with only the occasional group doing down-winders passing through. Let's hope we get some more of what we got last week!
