3/23 Strawberry River, 12M kite, snowboard

Postby Craig Denton » Wed Mar 24, 2010 1:22 pm

Hi Everone,

I had a total blast at Strawberry River yesterday. Arrived about 2:00 and rode until 8:20pm with a rest and a bite to eat in the middle. Plenty of wind and little bit of new snow on top. Had to search for the nice powder, but there were plenty of soft areas.

There was one other kiter there on skis, but I think skis were much more difficult than a snowboard in that type of spring snow.

It was snowing hard when I left the parking lot. Had a nice little dinner at the Dairy Keen in Heber on my way back to Salt Lake. Wish it were blowing today.

peace,

Craig

That was me on the kite and yes, the snow was tough. But not as tough as I think the next day was. There were some fun powdered spots to mess around in. I boosted some practice jumps for about 30 minutes and was beat-- tired and hammered from landing weird. It was gusting 12-20 and sometimes those would hit right at the send and wham-- I'm airborn. Still trying to get the hang of the right amount of speed, send, and sheeting in to get a controlled jump. Either I don't get lift off or I go into orbit. I'm not finding that safe, practice zone quite yet. My two brothers got to mess around with the trainer kite-- but my Hydra 300 really is a bad kite, I'm finding out. It flies quite horribly compared to that Ozone trainer.

I think I paid $280 new last year. I'd let it go for $150.
