9/20 SSB

Postby Jason Klein » Tue Sep 21, 2010 8:45 am

Super smooth wind last night at SSB. wind came up at 4:45. 13-17m kites out to start. some 11-13's by 6. i had the 14/big board to start and switched to the small board after 20 minutes. left at 7 with the wind still cranking. The beach is as big as i've ever seen it in 4 years here, and water is shallow for a long way out. the butter channel is not rideable.

Excellent evening. Started out on the raceboard and did 4 or 5 long tacks upwind of Provo boat Harbor. I think it's about 6 miles as the crow flies. Figured out how to really sail off the wind and was able to make it back to SSB in one tack! Six miles straight downwind in one tack! The Alex Aguera corse board rips. Came in and switched down to a 13m and strapless surfboard for the rest of the evening! If you like your kites or your feet beware of SSB!!! Tons of glass and nails :(

Great wind last night. Flew the 13m. Perfectly powered. Amazing sunset through the smoke of the Herriman fire. At least something good came from it. Filled my memory chip on the camera before it got real cool looking. Anyway nice to see a bit more beach but the place is a mess with more couch burning. Picked up a couple nails in my tires. Still holding air so far, Also carefull driving in through the deep ruts. I sure miss the flat water area.
