1/8 Strawberry Cabin sites 21M & 179 3B

I arrived at around 1:30 and I kept driving east. There were signs of wind in a few places. When I arrived at the cabin site parking lot, the wind was blowing about 5 mph. I figured it might be a little stronger on the mesa (I am not sure if it is an actual mesa, but it looks kinda like one over by the radio tower). As soon as I had the kite setup, the wind filled in at 15 mph - nice and steady. Rode in 8 - 12" of fluff. The powder was excellent. It has dried out and the snowmobiles had left if mostly untouched. I went over the to the cabins and found the wind was lighter as I dropped towards the lake. Went over to the mesa near the radio tower and spent over an hour gliding and riding sweet, untouched powder. It was a great afternoon, just wish there were some other kiters there to enjoy it. Wind had picked up to around 18 - 20 by the time I got back to my truck around 4:30. Coverage is the best I have ever seen it at the cabin site area, just a few twigs of sagebrush poking through in places.

Tried to get out today at Strawbs. After checking a few of the spots out heading east around 2:00 and not finding much wind, got to the view lot and seemed like the wind was going to start. Rather then setup there tried to go back to CC to ride the hills. The wind wasn't going to make it there. Ran into some kiters snowshoeing. Thought things looked bleak for wind so started heading home. Stopped at Strawb river to a find a few puffs. Decided to setup the 12.5m and see what would happen. Finally got an hour or so in light wind as the storm was coming. Lots of Snomo tracks, but lots of untracked sections. Left before dark.
Sounds like I should've headed further east. How's the setup at the cabins, long walk isn't it?

Hey Mike,

When the forecast is for wind out of the west, the best locations are always CC E and further East. The cabin site location is at a higher elevation, so it is the most favored. No, the walk is the same as Strawberry River. You can set up right next to the lot. See you out there.
