30 Jan - Strawberry Skunking

Postby ChrisPSherwin » Mon Jan 31, 2011 8:44 am

Names withheld to protect the innocent: "We" Showed up a little before noon. It was nuking wind in PC and pretty much everywhere else. No wind at Strawbs - I mean ZERO wind. I xc skied until 2 and went home. At one point high on a ridge waaaay in the distance I saw Peter Miller glide, have a snack in the air, make a phone call, sell a house, complete the paperwork and then casually land an hour later.

DC was probably rideable up from the marina towards Cascade Springs Road. I was going to check it out, but just didn't feel very good. The snow was in surprisingly good shape and I don't know if last night's colder weather is going to make it all crusty or not. The wind may have fired around 3, but the wind meters suggest that the wind was bizaree in there.

Strawbs has strong NNW flow already. Going to give it another shot soon :))

I did not go to the marina - I can't imagine that it had any more wind than the view area, but I have seen stranger things. Did any one go there?

 I don't think Peter still "Snow" kites... Peter style airtime is a new sport, the Snow part has become irrelevant. (Evny)

This is the norm for the Marina on West to South days, Just last weekend almost 10 of us stood at the veiw area, with out a breeze, We sent a "scout on a snowmobile over to the marina he came back with a positive wind report and we all rode the marina all afternoon. This is how it almost always works on a SW wind I have flown 10m there while others are getting skunked at the veiw area, cabins etc...
