totally XXX first day of the year. Arrived around 2pm to see Tim S. ripping on a 5.3, I rigged the 5.2 and was powered up about half the time, then it hit. Totally in survival mode and finally came in when a new sailor came. He rigged and 4.2 and looked fully powered the rest of the afternoon. I rigged a 4.7 and it was manageable, but still scared the crap out of me. After missing most of my jibes from being overpowered I realized the cold water (not too bad) was sucking my strength and called it a day....what an exciting first day of the year!!! Jordanelle really filled in and provided some great sailing if you had small enough gear.

Judging from your report and Jason's, it sounds as though Jordanelle was the place to be yesterday. DC did eventually blow, but with wild fluctuations in direction and wind speed (a few gusts into the mid 40s.) It's been the conventional wisdom for a long time that Jordanelle is better than DC on a SE day, and yesterday's conditions would seem to support that belief. In contrast to what usually happens, DC eventually steadied out, but not until about 8PM, well past my bedtime.
