After coming over the pass at Skyline Monday morning, and experiencing some of the worst winter storm road conditions of the season, I knew it would be good. We passed Matt D who was on his way to score that day. The afternoon on Monday cleared out and set up for a Tuesday rally.
Jon Regan, the truck driving snowkiter was delivering Kayaks in Moab, and called to see how Skyline was. Lucky Man caught one of the best days of the year on the last day of May on a random stop. But he was prepared and ready with two sets of waxed Tele skis and several Snowkites.
We drove up early and stayed till 3pm. UNREAL. It was strong SE all day, with a slight South tinge to it. 8 inches of cold fresh powder, untracked. Powered on 13 meters in the morning let us ride all over the place... the cornice hits, the main ridge, boscos, the half pipe gullies. I scored some of my biggest airs of the winter, sickest carving turns and fastest runs of the season all on the last day. It was a top 5 day for sure, what a surprise. The best part was the surreal colors, Dark blue skies, solid white mountains and bright green valley below.
The afternoon session powered up and let us ride lit on 10 meter kites. The snow got creamy, and finally a little sticky on the sunny slopes. Still plenty of good stuff in the gullies, but our legs were dead by then.
I can't believe its June now... SICK!!!
