Grantsville morning sesh. 6-8-06

Called up Rick H after I sold a couple more life policies at 11:30pm last night. I asked him if he was up for a morning session at Grants. So we both packed up our gear I got to the lake about 1 am and Rick about 2 am. Woke up to pretty light wind the quickly built up to a great 2 1/2 hour morning session. I rode 6.3 m2 and 100 liters.

The tub is 100% full which makes for some pretty decent reaches. Spoke to the an employee of the Grantsville Irrigation company, and he said they couldn't get rid of the water fast enough. Appartently all the shareholders can use as much as they want.

I was OPed here and there. The wind stayed consistent until the last 30 minutes when it started getting to the regular Granstville ride in any direction twirling gusty wind.

The highlight of the day was when we completed a high 5, me in the water and Rick planning by. You can't do that on a formula board!

I wanted to add that the water in Grantsville Res. was surprisingly warm. This has been one of my worries for the beginner day... With my full length wetsuit I never got cold at all! So by next week it'll even be a little warmer so that is encouraging for the beginner day...

However, the "railroad track" fence that they put up will prevent people from driving down to the water's edge when the lake goes down. It is completely over full right now though. There is some relatively good "beach" area to the north end of the lake that will be good for beginner launching...

By the way, for those of you who have been there recently, that guard fence made out of nothing but welded railroad ties was constructed and installed by two guys!!!??? Took around 2 and a half months to build.

PS If anybody is looking for a place to camp the weekend of 16th and 17th it would be very advantageous if we "occupied some of the RV pads at Grantsville as early as thursday, or he said some even on wednesday... Or just leave a vehicle there... (Sarah, per our conversation, there are relatively nice RV type pads there with pavillions...)
