Upon arriving at Charleston Bridge about 2:30, I discovered that the launch area, which had been open water yesterday, was now obstructed by floating ice. Considered using my board as an icebreaker (something we didn't hesitate to do back in the days of rotomolded polyethylene boards.) At about that point, however, the wind started filling in and appeared to be more than I'd be able to handle with my 6.0, the smallest sail I had with me. Went home, grabbed my 5.0, and returned to the beach, which by then was, fortunately for me, more or less ice free:
The wind had backed off a bit, so I ended up rigging the 6.0, which turned out to be all I could handle as the wind filled back in. Fun session! Water temp? Measured it yesterday with a glass thermometer, which gave a reading of 5C (41F.) BarbedWireBeach, which yesterday had been bordered by a small stretch of open water, was icebound again.
