6-8 Daily Double #2 Grants/Sulfur 6.0/85L

2nd double session of the week. Having a great session at Grants this morning with ripping 5.7 winds. Then it seemed to die a notch so I went in to let out a little downhaul. I suddenly got a blast of wind from the north and the sail session was over. Nice session but too short. NOAA is worthless. At 10:00 they were still saying gusty south winds would start up at the airport at 10:00 and last through the day. The front would come thru in 14 hours or around midnight. Heck, the front was already right over their office. By 11:00 they had admitted it and said it would be north all day. I bet the airport staff was furious when, without notice, they suddenly had to switch all the planes from north to south landings. They predicted Sulfur would stay SW so off I went.

I am glad now it went the way it did. Pulled into Sulfur at 1:00 to see lots of whitecaps. It was a little up and down at 1st and I had to use the 115L board but then it was like someone turned the fan on. Screaming reaches on the 85L Sonic went on for as long as my legs held out. Once it got over the initial up and down there were almost no more lulls, no rip and schlog for a change. A 5.2 would have worked great. It was a great afternoon of sailing making up for the skunky day Tuesday. I finally quit at 5:30 as I couldn’t sail another foot. It was 78 degrees and I was able to get by with a short sleeve suit with a 1.5 mil rashguard for the arms. The water is the warmest it has been this early. 2 others sailors joined me for the fun. 3 vacation days this week resulted in a ton of sailing.

Sailing both the Gorge and Utah on my 8'2" HiTech and my 3 Starboards; Sonic 85L, S-Type 115L, and Carve 135L. Small quiver is Northwave, larger sails are Ezzy and Sailworks. Often in my white Odyssey but also in my wife's motor home.
