Jake, I appreciate your post but do not accept your apology because none is needed. First of all, from my point of view, I don't remember anything today that annoyed or scared me. I don't know where you were (upwind or downwind of me) when I launched, but if you were down wind, you actually had the right of way.
A number of us were talking about right of ways etc. today, and the jumping thing comes often comes down to...
1) awareness
2) courtesy
3) skill
4) knowledge of the people you kite with
For example, I jumped right in front of Sal's path today because I knew that there was no way he could hit my lines. He calls me "loco Pepe" and we give each other high fives later. If something HAD happened, it would have totally been my fault.
The funny thing is, the person nearest to shore usually has the right of way, but if you jump there, you come down on land. When it gets really crankin in these parts kiters can easily drift 200+ feet and need to go waaay offshore. Any time you huck that big, you're probably crossing someone's right of way, and if you were to land on them, or in their immediate path, a collision would be your fault. But the Northern Utah Kite Network clan (yes - NUKN) gets along really well because usually if someone sees Brad load up they are 1) aware that he's going big, 2) courteous enough to move away, 3) skillful enough to avoid something really bad if he crosses their line because he went huge.
Seriously, we have all done really stupid stuff out there, me especially. Whatever you may have thought you did today didn't bother me at all. I don't even have a recollection of it.
You seem to be one of many making a team effort, and that's all anyone around here can ask for. See you on the water tomorrow!
