ULSSB update

I was starting to think that Lincoln is lighter wind than SSB so Arpi and I decided to do a little experiment (since we knew there would be lots of kiters out at Lincoln). Apri rode powered up on his 16m early. By the time I got there it was backing down but I didn't know that so I pumped my 12m. I was too light on the 12m so I came back in. By that time Apri was done so he lent me the 16m where I was good for the rest of the evening. It's getting a little harder to compare with the bow kites and C kites but from talking with Marty (who was out at Lincoln at the same time) it sounds like Lincoln was very similar (in terms of wind) to SSB.

The good, the bad, and the ugly.

The good: The water has dropped a lot. We can now drive in along the road that comes from the west (lots of us were standing on this road when we were launching early this spring). To get it drive all the way to the end then turn right on a dirt road (before dropping into the water). This winds back along the beach (east ward) to our normal launch cove. The launch cove is now full size and dry but it is the back area and not where we were launching last year.

The flat water section is just as good as always and the waves just as fun as always. And awe, sand wonderful sand. After riding Lincoln you will really come to appreciate that smooth soft sand. It gets me excited just thinking about it.

The bad: It is still far from an ideal launch. On the weekends I think Lincoln will be a better call because we need all the room we can get (you know the weekend fiesta routine). During the mid week my guess is that we won't have others to work around so it will be workable.

The ugly: Considering that this beach is a concentration region of rednecks now, it isn't terrible but I definitely want to run a magnet over some of the rubble to clean up the left over pallet debris.

So I think we are starting to have a choice and with this hot weather SSB might come completely back into its own. I think for now I will be riding both locations depending on the day of the week, the wind, and the company.
