4/22 ULLB, 9 meter

It was a polar bear session, but a great first session on the water this season! At some point earlier the day, a 7 meter would have worked too. Wind was smooth and the swells were good. Chris G, Charlie, Bryce and Tyler and I had the place for couple of hours before Chris Sherwin, Andy and Todd showed up for the second shift.

Showed up for 3rd shift. Rode lit 13m (should have been on 10). I was the last one off the water as usual but there was still an hour of daylight and wind that went unused.

We need more of these wind all day long kind of days .

Hey Leo or Brad,

Thanks for the posts. How cold is the water at ULLB? You guys in hoods and gloves? 5/3 suits, right? Thinking of bringing along an advanced beginner who's got a 4/3 suit and floaty board, and wondering how cold she might get falling in. Thinking Friday, which is looking mid to high 60's, so much warmer temps than we've had, although I doubt the water will warm up more than a degree or two.

Sounds like most are rocking 4/3 suits with booties, gloves off or on and no hoods.

I think the water is in the low 50's. I wore a 4/3 with gloves, booties, and a hood which I took off periodically. Lincoln has nasty rocks on shore and in the water which destroy fins. Especially for beginners. Booties are a must. South Sandy has a nice, sandy bottom. Not sure of road conditions in there currently? No bathrooms, however. The water has come up slightly since I was there two weeks ago, but it is a little too shallow at Lincoln at this time. Had a great 10m session at Sal Padre, which is nice and sandy.

I've often thought if I windsurfed at Lincoln,
I rig on the jetty and walk down the rocks like Hatchery to stay in the deep water and protect the fins.
Or rig on the north side of the jetty and walk it out into the deep, seems to not be rocky out there.

Thanks for responses, guys. Forgot to confirm that I and my beginner friend would be - what is the word? Oh, yah - poleboarding, but seems like y'all figured that out.

Sounds like the water too low for pole board fins? Seems like it was OK last year late summer, don't remember rocks from the launch but maybe the level drops a lot there over the winter. So is it too low right now to use floaty windsurfers with normal fins?

Was thinking it might be a little warmer there than Saratoga Springs.

No it's definitely not too shallow, you just have wade out further into deeper water. There are some submerged obstacles in there as well. Hope to see you out there on a windy day!

I rode 4/3 with no booties no hood and was only cold on my hands.

I hate cold water. So, I doubled up my 4/3 with a 3/2 shorty.

By now, I think a 4/3 would work just fine.
