Grantsville Reservoir

Postby JeffGerke » Tue Aug 29, 2006 9:57 am

I'm trying to decide if Grantsville is worth the trip. I noticed it was cranking out there this morning. I'm concerned about the size of the reservoir and the fisherman. How would the size of Granstville compare with the Provo Harbor? Hopefully it is larger. Is it hard to avoid the people fishing? Since I'm a newbie I don't have a lot of control over where I end up somtimes and don't want to be tangled in fishing lines all the time. Grantsville seems to blow a lot in the morning and it would be very convenient to hit it before work. I could be out there and rigged by the time it gets light and sail for a couple hours before work.

Jeff,

I'm fairly new (3 Ut summers) and I try to go to Grants anytime I can. Never measured but guessing at 400m across (but that's what I need as it forces me to jibe). Also, the water is really flat. My experience is when it's windy there's not a lot of fishermen but the wind will change to blow you at the ones that are out.

If you can get out for dawn patrols you're lucky as that's when the wind is best. I usually get there late afternoon just as the wind is dying down. Ken and Tom seem to get in a lot of dawn patrols. You may want to talk with them.

Ever been to Grants? If not ask for specific directions as it's easy to miss.
