Mojave worked its magic on me again. Sailed Thanksgiving Day on da Formula stuff. Nice consistent South wind took me across the lake to find Bucky and friends at 6-Mile. Eric and Scott from Bountiful were camped there with their partners as well. Bucky had been there for 7 weeks with a 64% hit rate on wind. The Formula gear made this lake smaller just like it did DC. It used to be a little scary sailing the 2.5-3.0 miles across, but I did it six times w/o thinking much about it. Maybe next time I'll sail to Katherine's! It's really heaven for the bigger gear, you can plane and plane and plane, exploring to your heart's content w/o having to jibe every 2 minutes.
Friday after the little front came through, Bucky and I met up on the lake for hours of powered 7.4 sailing on wider slalom gear. What a rush -- blue water, 75 degree temps, water about 63, far warmer than Deer Creek in late October, jibes in the glassy coves on either shore. Great mtn bike rides on the one day w/o wind. Life on the beach was great. We camped all alone near a big willow on a point of land, with gentle breezes at night and great starry skies over our fire.and wine and real beer in the cooler. Just us and the birds, although we made friends with some wild burros the last day. I remember again why I like this place most of all.
