Farmington Canyon????

I am always looking for new spots and have this Friday off to explore. I was looking at the Snowtel reports and Farmington Canyon is one of about 5 sites in the entire state that is reporting 29 inches, which is the most any site has. The other sites all sit at a higher elevation than Farmington Canyon also. Since the Farmington site is at 8000 feet and the peaks are roughly 9500 feet there could be even more snow than that. Anyhow I will be giving Farmington canyon a shot on Friday if anyone wants to come along. It will surely require some hiking. Has anyone snowmobiled up there and know of any open areas? Maybe the Bountiful peak area?

2 years ago i kited were farmington peak and bountiful peak meet its called skyline drive, it opens up and flatins out. You for sure need a snowmobile to get there. It was a south flow when I was up there I think it works like PM. Let me know how it is, I can go on sat if its worth it.

Can't I get there if I just skin up on tele ski's? Isn't the area that you are talking about up towards the summer cabin road? I bet with a snowmobile you could find several good areas. I have a pretty good map at home that I will have to get out and consult.

ya you can skin up there, its just a long trip. Ya were talkin about the same place. I bet there are so many great spots up there. Let me know how it is up there. I have a snomobile so we could go up on sat if you think its worth it. Im jealous I hope you find some sweet spots.

I skinned up to bountiful peak once from the trail head. I dont remember it being that far (by ski touring standards), I do remember sharing it with high marking snowmobilers. We skinned up to the ridge line and skied some cool stuff. I cant image good wind exposure except for the ridgeline, but if the winds hit it right down lower, it sure would be cool. If nothing else, its a good ski tour. I wouldnt mind heading back after some fresh snow. Have fun.

Augie this is Patrick probly dont remember me. Last year Rob W and myself went exploreing up Farmington Canyon. It was deemed a very beutiful trip for a snow machine ride if you get my drift. Not alot of open area, but if I had any input back in the flats might work it is well protected on all sides by steep hills so it might have to be a strong wind. Well not as protected from the south. You want to drive all the way to the Red gate at the top of Farminton Canyon and park, go past 300yrds and head right up the little canyon past the beaver ponds that will get you into the flats. You could also go up to the utility shed and follow the road south "this is the farmington canyon loop road" until you see a good spot off to the east in the flats this will allow you to ski down hill on the way out and 50% on the way in. So after that long winded report I think your best bet is going to be the Boutiful Canyon Side at the saddle of the southerly shoulder of Boutiful Peak. Long way right now from dirt to snow. The gate on the side is much further down the Mountain. It sucks to say but i have hitched many a ride just asking as people pass on the way up.

Poniboi, thanks for the info. Oh well, if Farmington Canyon isn't quite right for kiting, at least I know there is lots to explore up on Monte Cristo. I had to bail on going there this Friday. It looks like its Pow Mow again since I have to do some likft evac training there that day.

You know Auggie, Chris just bought a couple of sleds. Might want to talk him into some exploratory outings.
