where to ride this weekend?

Postby mike loeser » Thu Dec 07, 2006 2:33 pm

What are my options for the coming weekend? I haven't had a chance to check the weather yet, but it has to be windy at the right spot. Sounds like Skyline is getting cut up. I did get to check out a few spots in Park City a few days ago and most look like they still need more snow. We need another good storm.

Powder Mountain has as much snow as anywhere else right now and the wind is predicted to be 18 out of the southwest also. It is a perfect wind speed and direction- just not much snow. The resort isn't really open yet so no pass required.

Mike,

Skyline may be cut up on Bosco Hill, but there is a lot of other terrain available. I like PowMow, but it has a lot less area to explore especially right now with a lot of rocks exposed. It is going to feel small with more than 5 kites. The same is true at Skyline if you ride at the foot of Bosco, but up on the ridge there should be a lot more space available.

I agree with kenny. Id go to skyline if the distance was equal for me, skyline or PM, and I new the wind would be good at Skyline. PM has lots of rocks right now which are mostly avoidable, but maybe an unnecessary risk. Because skyline is so far and PM so close, the risk is totally acceptable for me.

Current winds aloft are indicating 12-20 from the SW-SSW. That's a good direction for Skyline, but you might want a big kite.

See y'all out there.

After checking the weather, I agree that Skyline should be nice this weekend. I just want some more snow. I talked to someone from Fairview that said it snowed there yesterday, sounded odd, but they said they got a few inches. May help the coverage if that's true. Anybody need a ride down there on Saturday?

I checked the NOAA digital prototype forecast and it shows that the morning will be better than the afternoon. It shows the wind switching from SW to South. However, ikitesurf shows no wind at Skyline all day. I have been keeping an eye on the forecast all week and it keeps changing. I guess I will just check the winds aloft and the Skyline wind meter in the morning to get an idea of what is going on down there.

Holy crap! I blew the earlier forecast post!

Looks more like the winds are going to be ripping tomorrow. High twenties in the morning tapering down to high teens to low twentis in the afternoon. The trend still looks to be SW to SSW.

I'll definitely be there. Hopefully the wind will be good to open up the west ridge. I might finally get a ride after three months of shite! Catch everyone out there.
