1st Annual Kite at Night-Pineview Moonlight Ride

Postby Augie » Fri Jan 12, 2007 9:34 am

I know the title of this may be ambitious but who wants to join in? A full moon is predicted for Feb 1st, so I was thinking either Friday the 3rd or Saturday the 4th. Of course we need to have wind and may make a last minute date change due to wind conditions. Headlamps and glowsticks may be necessary.

Hey, Sounds like a great idea. Don't forget the glow sticks to put in your wing tips.. it will light up the whole kite like a UFO.

I won't be able to make it myself tho...That weekend I will be heavily inebriated near the Skyline region. Its my b-day and I'm gonna party like its 1999. That first weekend of Feb, I will also be joined by an onslaught of our California Kiter friends..... so maybe an all night ride at the Line?

Pine or Line, there will be action on the snow that night. oh yeahh.

BTW - Check out joecartoon.com I laugh my ass off on there.

I think that we should try to night kite on Friday and if it works out come back on Saturday. I really think glow sticks are a good idea because sometimes clouds may obscure the full moon. I have Friday off and may go to Pow Mow or Monte but I can be there plenty early (about 5:00 ) to give a wind report to those of you who need it before driving long distances. Due to the condition of the ice (Ice fish holes) in the Narrows we will probably not be staging there. I think the windsurfer beach is much better and more wide open, although the lower Narrows is plenty clean enough for night kiting. My cell phone # is 201-8205. I carry it when I kite.

Just an update-I called the Ogden Standard Examiner to see if they wanted to get a photographer up there. The guy who called me back is actually their Outdoor writer. He seemed real interested. It looks like this will be a newspaper article. The prevailing wind direction in the next few days looks to be mostly west. I think that is perfect to drive the winds up the canyon and funnel them across Pineview. Again, I will be there about 5 and if anyone needs a wind report call my cell phone 201-8205. I will be at Pow Mow in the day. Get glow sticks at Home Depot.

It is pretty windy up here, winds out of the west. Auggie is getting strong winds up to 20mph, and the wind has been out of the west on Pineview all day. Should be good tonight.

It sucked-No wind. I was able to hook up with the newspaper reporter though and he is writing an article. The photographer was able to get soem photos of Kenny Lewis before I got there and the wind died.
