Special guests coming to ride + snowkite \ help wanted

Postby tom w » Fri Jan 19, 2007 10:04 am

Last year Mike Waltze and his girlfriend Allissa came to Brighton for some snowboarding (a new sport for them but they caught on very fast. go figure) and stayed in our rental for two weeks. They had such a good time that they are coming back for two weeks in the end of feb+first of march. This time they are bringing another couple with them. Some guy named Robbie and his wife. They are going to stay here again and ride at Brighton, but they also want to check out the local snowkiting scene. Thats where you come in.I would like someone to maybe take them to Skyline or somewhere and show them around if there is any wind and snow. Doug, Marty, Jon M, anyone? call me. Tom W. (891-2008) Oh, by the way,how is everyone doing so far this winter? I've seen Stewert, Darin and Malinda up here a few times looking for the elusive powder this season. Lets hope we start getting some storms @ here. It's been pretty lean so far. Take care and pray for snow. We need lots of it so Rush fills all the way up again.Wouldn't that be nice? Pray for snow, but also for peace. War, huh, good God y'all. What is it good for? Absolutely nothing. Tom W.

Tom,

I suggest that you have them post the days that they want to go on the UWA website. That way if anyone is going down, they can hitch a ride.

As far as Rush is concerned, I noticed when I was out there last week that there is ice under the snow, so there will be enough water (at least for the mudboarders) in the spring.

The primary reason that the water level has been low the past two years (record water years) is due to upstream users diverting most of the flow. I usually shy away from environmental clubs like the plague, but this is a case where it may make some sense to contact several environmental clubs and explain how Rush is drying up every year and how it may be affecting the local wildlife. Of course, the flipside of the coin is that if too much attention is paid to Rush, it could become a bird sanctuary and we would be off limits to the place completely. Not sure how to proceed on this one, but that is my two cents.
