Grantsville on a North?

Postby kenonstott » Sun May 06, 2007 10:49 am

Has anyone ever sailed the higher north winds at Grantsville? I have always sailed south and west and left after the front came through. It is blowing 23 gusting to 27 right now and UL is 5. Last time I had this setup I turned down 20-30 Grantsville for a very low end 7.0 sesh at UL including lots of reeds on the fin. All of Tooele county is blowing hard; are there any other north spots besides Rush?

Ken, I was there this morning at 10am and was blown away at how steady and flat it looked. I was ready for an epic solo session. I thought about rigging the 5.2, but opted for the 5.7 and the small board. By the time I rigged the wind had died and I jumped on a larger board for a couple of rides, then it died (like it did everywhere else). I'm convinced that on a sustained north day, Grantsville would be an excellent call.

Hey guys, I have sailed a North at Grantsville before... It was strange... The wind was very strong ~4.0/78L but it was a little swirly... I don't know if that's because there is no venturi lining it up from the north really... Well, Oquirrhs and Stansburys, but thats a wide spread there... I actually had a fun session, but it was not a "fan"... I concluded that this was because of how the wind is blowing UP the hill and kind of has to jump over the dam... I launched in the middle and the further South I was on the lake the more consistent the wind which reenforced my conclusions....

I have kited there on a light north a few years ago when Rush was dried up for the summer. The wind is very inconsistent with big lulls and short bursts of power when the wind is light.
