Hi Ken, I also have done the "sugar" deck. First you tape off the parts
you don't want decked, then you lay down a thin coat of epoxy, then
sprinkle with salt (cauze sugar draws ants). If you have a nice
spreader (maybe a fertilizer spreader for salt), you should be able to lay
down a pretty uniform deck. If you can find a fine enough salt, maybe a
sifter. Once done, dry, sand lightly, and run
water over the deck (to wash out the salt). Dimitrije's method of
sprayning in a deck rather than using painted on epoxy, works quite well
also, but I find the painted in decks last a little longer.
I layed in one deck with washed sand (on a polyester board). It wasn't
particularly pretty, but it was very rough, and lasted the boards entire
life.

1. Coat the board with Epoxy Finish (the one that takes 50% each of to parts) and sprinkle with fine salt. When the finish is hard, wash away the salt leaving a nice textured surface.
2. Put on the epoxy resin and “place a layer of good quality nylon cloth over the entire area + at least 3cm, and wet this out with resin too. Make sure you do not wet the entire nylon, but leave a dry 'frame' around the repaired area. This area is to allow you to peel off the nylon once the resin has curedâ€ÂÂ.
My experience on the 2nd method says you will never get the cloth off. Has anyone tried the salt method?
