I couldn't resist the dawn patrol. Arrived the lake at 5:45am. Rode solo until 7:30 until the regulars got out of bed (Ken, John Freed, and George). Packed it up around 9:00 and it was still going strong. Nice jibe session. Water temp was refreshingly cool. Water is down about 100 feet from the rail, which still makes the lake fun.

Another great morning. 5.5 until 10:30. I should have gotten there earlier. I'm hoping for another good one tomorrow.

Looks like a typo, it appears to say 5:45 am. And what exactly does "refreshingly cool" mean?

Thanks,

Grantsvile Temp

Postby kenonstott » Fri May 18, 2007 1:56 pm

Grantsville Res was 53 degrees at mid day Sunday. On the internet Deer Creek is 50 and Utah Lake 66. Oh, and Bear Lake is 42.

No typo there, I know Rossberg well enough that the only misinformation might be that he made the first couple of reaches in the dark....

I don't know about Grantsville, Bear Lake, or Utah Lake, but DC is not 50 degrees, at least not close to shore at the Charleston Bridge launch; it measured 65 this afternoon. Why the huge discrepancy between my measurement and that posted on the internet? No idea! Could it be that my temperature probe is grossly out of calibration? Don't think so, as I just compared it with a mercury lab thermometer at 20C (68F, the lowest mark on the lab thermometer) and the probe was only high by about 0.3 degree C ( 0.5 degrees F). And, it doesn't feel like 50; John Dubock and a visitor from Long Beach were both sailing in shorties and doing fine.

Reaching in the Dark

Postby Jon Manwaring » Sat May 19, 2007 7:54 am

I have heard rumors that both Mike and Kenny have rigged their kite lines in the Dark using headlamps. So reaching in the Dark is a real possibility. Adds new meaning to the "DARK SIDE". I've windsurfed in the light of the full moon but never in the Dark before DAWN. But what do you expect from those that kite the Salt Ponds, Talk about an addiction.
GOTTA LOVE IT BABY.

Shorty season at DC. Is a full suit more appropriate at Grants or would a shorty be enough in the wee hours (7-10am)? I'm assuming we are well past bootie requirements at this point.

As for 5 am, it's beyond my comprehension but Mike R., well, he's obviously in another class entirely. (Maniac?) Actually, it looks like 3:30 am is often pretty wound up too. The question becomes whether to stay up late or get up early. Someone please let us know which is better. Then we just need to get the place lit up for visibility and we'll be smoking GPS runs for the books.
