Landboarding Rally? (Brian?)

Postby btjsfca » Sat May 19, 2007 3:40 pm

About a month or so ago, there was talk of rallying up and getting a bunch of folks out to Burmester for some landkiting. I think its about time to make this happen. Brian (if you're reading this), you mentioned getting this together, maybe providing boards/buggies for those who want to take a first go. There's been interest on the forum about seeing what this is all about, so maybe it's time?

The wind is remarkably consistent at Burmester and this could probably happen any time that people are willing to get out there. So long as there isn't a conflicting south wind, I've not been let down.

Anyone who's interested might do well to respond and maybe we can get this going.

Thanks.

Justin,

I am interested as soon as I get my board upgraded (hopefully this week). I would really like to ride with some other riders. I have a lot of experience on the snow and water, but I am a landboarding neophyte.

Yeah, yes, yup! Lets do it!

Sorry for the lack of comms, not hiding, not travleing, just moving the Ozone program south to the land of milk and honey (snow and wind :!: )

So, one can never plan a wind event and expect the wind to blow, but pretty much any sunny day with a north thermal off the GSL will work at Burmy. So what works for everyone else? A weekend I would assume?

For the water riders, its worth checking out, as boards with wheels or metal edges seem to work better with kites than boards with fins :?:

Maybe this Saturday... or did it rain in Salt Lake... it poured here in Sanpete county. Maybe the following?

Well, I did manage to talk to Brian, and he's in and he'll even lend some gear. The choice of days matters. It seems the thermal needs a slight frontal assist to be good. Without it, there's just not quite enough wind, maybe 10-15 whereas with a bit of an atmospheric push, it'll blow more solidly at 15.

Trouble is that I'm out of town for the next three weekends, so I'm not good to go until July. :( But, all the preconditions are there. Just waiting to pick a day. I pretty much blew it on the planning side. Hopefully we can get a day in July with some wind and not ridiculous temps. But, the trouble is, it's going to be hot whenever it does happen. If anyone's got a big water jug to donate to the cause, it will definately come in handy.

I'm looking to get out there today if the wind doesn't go crazy. It's already blowing 20-25, and might just get stronger. Give a shout: 801 582 2417.
