Anyone else watching the front this afternoon

Postby Kenny » Thu Jun 14, 2007 12:40 pm

Take a look at the observation for Northern Utah. Looks like a dry front has passed over southern Idaho. There are not many mesonet sites in Northern Utah, so it is hard to get a good idea of where the front is located. Looks like it might make it here in time.

Last year, I was pleasantly surprised by a couple of dry fronts like this one. I rode 9M kites one evening last summer when there was nothing in the forecast. Didn't promise much, but delivered big. You never know what can happen when one sweeps by...

Looks like the numbers are looking good for Rush right now. I am going to watch it and see if it holds. Maybe I will see you out there!

Weird stuff going on over in Tooele. Wind is strong at Flux and Burmester, but nothing is happening at Penny's and Stockton Bar. The direction must not be right. Looks like the most promising setup is for Utah Lake. Unless you love the Salt Ponds  I don't love the Salt Ponds that much, hope to see the crew at Lincoln.

Sorry Kenny I decided to go golfing. It looked funky so I decided to lose golf balls instead.

Stokes,

Yeah it was really weird. I don't think I have every seen it where the predictors were so strong, but there was so little wind at the riding spots. The direction was shifting a lot at the predictors, so that is probably what fouled everything up.

One more weird thing - the wind as Lincoln was the smoothest wind I have ever seen there, pure north with no direction shifts - no gustiness whatsoever. I thought it would be really funky when I was driving south and noticed some flags indicated a pure north direction, others NE, others NW all within a short distance of one another.
