lindon is getting a face lift!!!!

I was getting skunked at lindon yesterday while a few state workers were walking around the beach, I mentioned the remains of a large bonfire from the weekend and how the beach is in such bad shape, even going so far as to complain how Kenny and I had called the police when a truck of kids pulled up with a loaded trailer full of pallets. Only to have them come back after we left and burn them anyhow and of course the police never came?

To my surprise the state guy mentioned they were working hard to try and clean up the beach, He said the had combed it but were still not sastified and had plans to truck sand in and cover the beach while the water level was low!!!!! They are going to maintain the beach! and after the pallet discusion it sounded as though we may even see a sign baning bonfires or at least reminding people it is illegal to burn pallets.

All good things!

AWESOME! it would be so nice to have some nice beaches without worrying about nails and junk. i think utah lake can actually be a beautiful place when the storms roll in. everytime i show somebody pictures of these beaches, they are very surprised that it is utah lake. it would be nice to keep these places clean and preserve them for non redneck users.

are you going down again tonight to get skunked? i might join you in the quest....

Call me skeptical - I just cannot see the state doing much to maintain Lindon beach. It would be great if they cleaned it up, but unless they do more to patrol it, things will be back to where they were in a short time. I have done a few cleanups there and at SSB, and it just does not last. Signs get shot at and knocked down. Barriers get knocked down.

Rednecks drive their trucks down there and leave their garbage. It does not stop in the winter either. I like to go there to ice skate in the winter - we came one day and found about 10 computers partially burned on the ice. Another night we were nearly run over by trucks doing doughnuts on the ice - with the ice making cracking noises all around us. Another time while we were skating, guys pulled up and started shooting from the edge of the road right over the area where we were. We quickly left and called police. They said they would send a car to drive by.

I would be willing to help clean up the beach - and would like to organize cleanups, but it seems like a lost cause unless there is more enforcement and education. I have thought of organizing scouts to patrol the beach on weekend evenings - just to pass out flyers educating people on the law. If you see the state guys down there again - get contact info and tell them we would like to help.
