Nice poleboard rides too. John Freed was first on the water with a Carve145/7.5m setup. I used my HS96/6.6m We were both well powered the great majority of the time. A bit later Rob Smith joined us. Adding interest to the session was the presence of a photographer from the Park Record. If I get way more than my fair share of ink in the upcoming story, it's not really my fault; blame Josh, he gave them my name and phone number.

Nice to finally get some time on board! I really think its been well over a month for me. Too long of a dry spell! DC wasn't as bad as I thought it would be wind wise. I was at the summer games deal and the wind blew from nothing to 30 mph in a few minutes time. I had a horrible experience then and wasn't so stoked on going back. IB was somewhat consistent with a few holes here and there. After looking at the graph from DCJIM on wind speed and checking the mesowest it looks a lot worse than it felt. That graph shows lulls down to 7-8 mph!
I did get to experience my board breaking on my first tack. Of course on the opposite side of the launch! Jaynes pre-production plywood/carbon fiber didn't make it through the season. Sorry Jared! Grabbed another board from the car and rode like a puss the rest of the afternoon. I didn't need another bad DC trip.
I will say that I had the day off and read Craig's forecast. Being hard up for wind, drove up there around 2. Arrived to glassy water and wished I had a boat. I've been skunked so many times this summer I came prepared. I sat and read the paper and around ten minutes later a wind line appeared. Nice call Craig! Amazing forecast today.
Billy left with something caught in his throat, hope he's okay. Didn't sound kite related though.
Glad the wind held up for Todd and Jason. I was out of shape so three hours had me beat and I figured the wind was easying off.
Nice day off,
Mike L.

Great short session for me. John Freed and Jim S. were getting rides when I arrived and when I left. FOTW, LOTW. I forgot my wet and dry suit, but was fine with a shorty. It was nice and steady from the south then started to switch with a more westerly component that only meant it was a little light on the westerly side. We were comparing injuries and other little annoying inconveniences that keep us off the water. Rob

Sorry I didn't stick around and say hello to everyone, but I was busy experancing some weird medical phenomenom called Kiki, I had a reaction to some thing and my uvala swelled up to the size of a grape and was blocking my air way. I spent a few hours in the hospital getting IV drugs and being watched. My uvala started to shrink and they let me go home, when I woke up this morning it was half the size!! (allthough still swollen a bit and very sore) Very weird and a little scary. I may have swallowed a stinging bug that stung my uvala or perhaps thare was a bug in my water bottle. who knows I am feeling better today and ready to kite! Hope to see some folks out on DC again today!
