85 MPH on the top of Ogden Peak.
Seems to be a good forecast for Good wind at Monte.
IT WAS.
We put 3 kites on my sled, and I towed Augie
to one of the ridges away from the main trail.
Started on my 10M Manta, for a while,
Then when the wind picked up I rigged my 9 Instinct.
Augie rode his 7.5 Frenzy.
The snow was great when we started, but got heavier as the day went on.
My best snowkiting day this season.
Really surprised no one else came up.

Just came back into town from the east coast. Cold cold cold, but no snow. Totally stoked to ride Monte as soon as I can. This season should be awesome. I'm off of school Thursday through Sunday, so when the wind's a'calling, I'm ready to ride.

Do you think it's necessary to have a sled to make the most out of Monte? If I end up snowshoeing, how far do I have to go to get to the good ridges?

See you out there.

If you park before the snowmobile parking lot it is an easy hike up a groomed snowmobile trail of about 1/4 mile. Just look for the signs that point the way to the road to Hardware ranch. Park at the stop sign where the Hardware ranch road enters SR39 and hike. Even if they haven't groomed the road, there is enough snowmobile traffic to keep it packed. Of course, all of this is irrelevant if the wind is good enough to launch by your car. You are in a wind hole where you park but sometimes it is enough to launch. Also, in the early season there are a couple of small creeks that go across the field and they are steep sided and rocky. They are covered now but can be hard to get around with low snow coverage.

Hey Marty,
What time did the wind come up on Monte? I was watching the actuals and it looked like nothing happened till the afternoon. Was it there earlier?

Thanks,
Ken

Actual? what meter are you looking at?

It was windy the whole time we were there.
I think it was between 11 and 3 ?

Augie do you remember what times?

The only actuals I have to go on are east of Huntsville a few miles and some peak 30+ miles north. Not a very telling forcast but I've been skunked every time I've been to Monte. I was looking early morning at Monte. I think the winds were just a little slow to arrive.

I ended up going up on the hillside in Pleasant View around noon about a mile north of my house and having a ball for a few hours with my Waroo 12.

Thanks!
