1/26 RUSH 12,10 M Manta II and Fence Update

Postby Jon Manwaring » Sat Jan 26, 2008 5:51 pm

If it was spring and Rush were water today, I would have had two ORGASMIC sessions. Rode 12 M in steady (by Rush standards) 10-15+ from 10:30 on, for about an hour or so, then rode 10 M in 15-20+ for another hour or so. Ran off 15 miles, max speed only 17 mph by the GPS, Temp was 43 degrees, Snow was Utah fluff, about 2"-3" over the Lake Bed, no ice just soft dirt. (not a good sign for this spring's water level). The SWAMI of Mt Pleasant (BS) has it right, when he says, 'the 3 elements, wind, snow and terrain must be in alignment for it to be epic, I had the ying and yang, but the terrain was FLAT.

As for the Fence, the report of it crossing the Lake was slightly exaggerated, (by me, sorry). It only extends from the East shore about 100-150 feet out into the Lake, There is a POST in the middle but nothing attached to it and nothing extending out from the West shore. I figure there are about 10-12 fence posts that would need to be removed. There was a single cord or wire strung between the posts. Looks like it might be an electric cord as there were things that looked like insulator straps attaching it to the posts. An easy removal and set up, if we can get permission to do so. How's it coming Jake? As I mentioned, it's only on the East side, perhaps, different land owner, over there. Still may be a good time to get something going. If we can't get it down, it will be a kite catcher, but only in that spot. A nuisance but not a big deal.
Jason, access to the speed flats is still possible. :D

Jon-
Is it still possible to run speed runs along the sand bar or is it too dangerous? I'll have to go check it out. I had a patient the other day who lives out there and is a long time local. They're going to contact the landowner and find out what the deal is and get back to me. They said they love looking at all the pretty kites and were concerned about our safety. I'll let you all know what happens. Glad to hear that the fence doesn't go all the way across. Have fun in barbados.
